The Joint Selection Meeting for the Head of National University Corporation Institute of Science Tokyo has established its selection criteria for the inaugural head as listed below.
We call for diverse individuals nominated by members of the Tokyo Medical and Dental University and Tokyo Institute of Technology communities, or via self-recommendation, with qualities and capabilities as specified in the criteria, such as management experience in a university or other organization of any size. Following the selection process, the candidate who is considered most suitable for bearing the ultimate responsibility for the national university corporation will be appointed as its inaugural head. It is our collective intention that the head will lead the newly established Institute of Science Tokyo to completely do away with the closed organizational culture that Japanese universities have tended to fall into in the past, and build an environment that is open to society at large and composed of diverse members who have “free and equal human relationships,” which should be fundamental to academia.
