On Sept 3, 2019, a ceremony was held, under the direction of President Yoshizawa and representatives of the university’s Executive Directors and Executive Senior Vice Presidents, to mark the awarding of research funding to inaugural members of the “Cultivating Unit for Innovating Medical Scientist” and the adoption of the unit’s second- and third-term members.

The “Cultivating Unit for Innovating Medical Scientist” aims to promote the continuing education of the next generation of researchers and to strengthen their research capability in prioritized areas, via the focused provision of the university’s internal grants and ample opportunity for joint research with invited top-class overseas researchers.

On this occasion, from among those awarded the president’s young researcher award in the 2018 academic year, five with notably excellent research outcomes were selected as second-term members of the unit. Furthermore, this academic year, from among the many who responded to relevant advertising within the university, seven applicants were adopted as third-term members after written screening and an interview in English.

Letters of notification were presented by President Yoshizawa to Assistant Professor Hiroyuki Matsumura (Department of Stem Cell Biology, Medical Research Institute), to Assistant Professor Shiro Yui (Center for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, Institute of Research) and to Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Kensuke Miyake (Department of Immune Regulation, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences), as representatives of the inaugural-, second-, and third-term members, respectively.

The ceremony finished with an address by President Yoshizawa urging the members to utilize the research funding to maximum advantage, continue to forge ahead with their research activities, and make further progress as researchers.
