Prof. Manuel Kukuljan, University of Chile Visits TMDU
Prof. Manuel Kukuljan from the University of Chile (UCh) visited Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) for three days from November 21 to November 24, 2023 to discuss the Joint Degree Program (JDP), which has been conducted by UCh and TMDU for over 7 years, as well as the future research collaborations moving forward. The visit consisted of five parts, from Session 0 to 3 and a Wrap-up session. Ten faculty members from TMDU joined Prof. Manuel Kukuljan for these sessions.
On November 21, three sessions related to the JDP were held, attended by Prof. Kukuljan and TMDU faculty members to exchange opinions on the current form and future direction of the program. The session began with opening remarks from Prof. Kukuljan introducing himself as an ambassador to strengthen the inter-university relationship between UCh and TMDU.
On November 22, the theme of the session shifted to potential research collaboration areas between two universities. Three faculties delivered their research presentation regarding Digital Denture, the Association between oral dysbiosis and body, and Development of innovative diagnostic/therapeutic tools for inflammatory bowel disease, followed by discussion and Q&A session. The session resulted in fruitful exchanges of their views and interests in various research topics, and this became a great opportunity to explore concrete areas of inter-university research collaborations going forward. After the sessions, President Tanaka invited Prof. Kukuljan to his office, where a welcome lunch and an appointment ceremony for Prof. Kukuljan as a visiting professor of TMDU were held.

The final day of his visit, November 24, concluded with the wrap-up session confirming all the discussions and mutual agreements made during the sessions. In his closing remarks, Prof. Kukuljan expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to have such meaningful exchanges of ideas to enhance the relationships between UCh and TMDU, and agreed to set up a new occasion where both universities could further discuss their future partnership in research collaborations.
