Opening Ceremony for the "CU - TMDU Research and Education Collaboration Center" in Thailand

Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) and Chulalongkorn University (CU) opened the "CU-TMDU Research and Education Collaboration Center" at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand on 23 November 2010.

From TMDU, President Takashi Ohyama, Vice President and Trustee for Education Hideaki Suda, Vice President and Trustee and Director General Masao Tanimoto, Auditor Shigeki Takahashi, Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Kikuo Ohno, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Junji Tagami and other dignataries attended the celebration. From Chulalongkorn, President Pirom Kamolratanakul, Vice President Sittichai Tudsri, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Adisorn Patradul, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Wacharaporn Tasachan and other Chulalongkorn officials attended the ceremony. Also in attendance were the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Thailand, a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the heads of the Japanese Association in Thailand, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce (Bangkok) and the JICA Thailand Office.

At the ceremony, President Takashi Ohyama, Professor Yoko Kawaguchi and President Pirom Kamolratanakul spoke about the background and mission of the Center. The Ambassador and the head of the Thai-Japanese Association then made speeches to commemorate the occasion. President Takashi Ohyama and President Pirom Kamolratanakul then cut the tape to officially open the CU-TMDU Research and Education Collaboration Center. After the formal ceremony, attendees visited the Center and enjoyed a reception.

The Center will promote research between the two universities, hold seminars and symposiums related to health and science issues, provide information about studying in Japan and at TMDU, support Thai and other TMDU alumni living in Thailand, and provide medical related information to Japanese who are living in Thailand. Based on these activities, the Center will further deepen and strengthen the bond that has developed over the past 20 years between the schools in collaborative research and exchange of personnel.
