Special Lecture Commemorating the Opening of TMDU's Master of Public Health in Global Health Course

Special Lecture Commemorating the Master of Public Health in Global Health Course was held on Friday, December 1, 17:30-19:00, in Lecture Room 1: School of Medicine, 2nd Floor, Building 3, Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU). Approximately 90 students and faculty members gathered for the lecture, which was also streamed live to viewers around the world.

This special lecture was held as part of a kickoff event of the “Master of Public Health in Global Health Course (MPH) (application period: Thursday, January 4 – Wednesday, January 10, 2018)” which will start in April 2018 at TMDU. Dr. Gauden Galea, Director of Noncommunicable Diseases and Promoting Health through the Life-Course, WHO Regional office for Europe was invited to give a lecture on his special interest in health promotion “NCDs and Global Health in the Era of Big Data”, which included social determinants of noncommunicable diseases, and the links between these diseases and the development agenda. This event was a great success, running overtime with many questions from the audience.

Prior to the lecture, President Yoshizawa delivered an address of thanks to Dr. Galea and made a speech concerning the opening of the new MPH course, then, Dr. Takeo Fujiwara, Professor of the Department of Global Health Promotion gave an overview of the MPH course.

The MPH course aims to cultivate human resources who are capable of carrying out competent research toward resolving global health problems by learning not only compulsory subjects of Master of Public Health Biostatics: Epidemiology, Behavioral sciences, Environment Health and Health System, but also Global Health, Social determinants of Health and Life Course Epidemiology. Upon successful completion of the two-year (average) complete English study program, students will be awarded a Master of Public Health in Global Health (MPH).

As mentioned above, the application period is from Thursday, January 4 to Wednesday, January 10, 2018.
