To 2010 Graduates:

I am deeply saddened by the unthinkable tragedy of the Great Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake, and have great concern for the victims, especially those who lost their loved ones and homes. Considering the ongoing efforts to provide relief, the uncertainty regarding the dangers posed by the nuclear power plant accident, and the continuing aftershocks, the university decided that the Spring Commencement Ceremonies should be cancelled so as to protect the safety of the graduates, guests and other attendees. There is nothing I would rather do than to celebrate your accomplishment and share your dreams with you at your commencement ceremony. However, as we cannot hold our ceremonies this year, I would like to ask you to accept my sincere congratulations and best wishes for your continued success via this letter, which is of course a pale substitute for the ceremonies that we wished to hold for you.

Cancellation of the Commencement Ceremonies
Due to the Great Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake and related effects, Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) regretfully announces that the commencement ceremony for graduate schools on March 24th, 2011, and the commencement ceremony for undergraduate students on March 25th, 2011, have both been cancelled in consideration for the safety of the guests and attendees.
As soon as possible we will inform you how we plan to send your graduation certificate to you. We appreciate your kind understanding and cooperation, and again deeply apologize for not being able to hold the ceremonies as originally planned
