Congratulatory Message on the Establishment of the Institute of Science Tokyo

I am delighted to congratulate you on the establishment of the Institute of Science Tokyo (IST), an extraordinary union of two prestigious institutions, Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) and Tokyo Institute of Technology. This merger marks the beginning of a new era of cutting-edge research, innovation, and multidisciplinary academic excellence in Japan and beyond.

Reflecting on my time at TMDU nearly two decades ago, where I pursued my PhD in the Department of Removable Partial Prosthodontics, Masticatory Functions Rehabilitation, I am filled with gratitude for the exceptional academic environment and the support I received from my supervisors, colleagues, the department, the international office, and the entire institution. The friendships and networks formed during this period continue to enrich my professional and personal life. Living in Tokyo with my family, we experienced a vibrant and advanced technological society and the Japanese people's remarkable kindness and hospitality.
I am confident this historic merger will unlock tremendous potential, positioning IST as a global leader in science, technology, and healthcare. I eagerly look forward to witnessing the remarkable achievements this unified institution will bring to the world.

I wish IST continued success in its mission to advance science and technology.

Warm regards,

Professor Ranjith Pallegama, BDS (Sri Lanka), PhD (Japan)
Deputy Vice-Chancellor,
