My study and EPFL

I have stayed Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) for one month. I have belonged tribo-corrosion laboratory and the chair is Dr. Stefano Mischler who is an expert in the field of “tribo-corrosion”. Tribo-corrosion is an important subject for artificial joint, because sliding parts of artificial joints are always exposed to friction wear in body fluid and tribo-corrosion always occurs on metals under this environment. I have compared the tribo-corrosion property of Co-Cr-Mo alloy which shows corrosion resistance and high wear resistance and is used for artificial joints with that of Ti-6Al-4V alloy which shows high corrosion resistance and is widely applied to medical devices.

I have joined some lectures to learn tribo-corrosion and presented my research work in Japan. These experiences much enhanced me to improve my English speaking skill.

EPFL is highly international and many foreign students belong to Dr.Strefano’s laboratory. During I spent a time with different country's people, I felt the difference in languages is not so big problem and communication skills are most important. Everyone in the laboratory and EPFL kindly welcomed me and I taught the usage of device, technique and so on, in spite of their busy schedule.

Life in Switzerland

I have homestayed at a small town, Rolle, where locates between Geneva and Lausanne. There are a lot of grape fields and lakes. People wake up early morning and come home back early in the evening. The park in the vicinity of the lake is crowded with families on holidays. I felt that this life style in Switzerland is so different from that in Japan. I came into contact with a different culture and people's kind in Switzerland. Now, I’m sure that I spent wonderful time. I hope a lot of students join to this program.

I wish to express my gratitude to people who supported this program, teachers in Japan, Dr.Stefano, his laboratory's member and my host family.I wish to express my gratitude to people who supported this program, teachers in Japan, Dr.Stefano, his laboratory's member and my host family.
