Tanakorn Tarapongpun

I am Dr. Tanakorn Tarapongpun, a Head and Neck and Breast surgeon, and a graduate from the first batch of the Joint Degree Doctoral Program in Medical Sciences between the Institute of Science Tokyo (formerly TMDU) and Mahidol University, Thailand. It is truly an honor to have been part of this pioneering program.
The program offered remarkable flexibility, which was especially valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was able to spend the first two years in Thailand conducting my research while continuing my clinical practice as a Head and Neck and Breast surgeon. Through this experience, I gained extensive training in basic science research, advanced clinical surgical practice, and also developed a strong appreciation for Japanese language and culture.
Furthermore, the program provided an excellent opportunity to learn from and share experiences with international colleagues in a multicultural academic environment. Upon graduation, I gained not only systematic thinking and advanced medical knowledge, but also long-lasting professional relationships with professors and peers from around the world. This joint degree program has had a profound and lasting impact on both my academic and professional development.
私はタナコーン・タラポンプン、頭頸部・乳腺外科医であり、東京科学大学（旧医科歯科大学）とタイ・マヒドン大学との国際連携医学系専攻の第一期生として修了しました。この先駆的なプログラムの一員となれたことを、心から誇りに思います。
本プログラムは非常に柔軟性に富んでおり、特にCOVID-19パンデミックの期間中にその価値を実感しました。私はタイでの最初の2年間、臨床医として頭頸部・乳腺外科の診療を継続しながら、研究に専念することができました。この経験を通じて、基礎科学研究の幅広いトレーニングと高度な外科臨床技術を習得するとともに、日本語や日本文化への深い理解も得ることができました。
さらに、このプログラムは、多文化的な学術環境の中で国際的な仲間と学び、経験を共有する貴重な機会を提供してくれました。修了後には、体系的な思考力と高度な医学知識に加え、世界中の教授や仲間との長期的な専門的ネットワークを築くことができました。このジョイントディグリープログラムは、私の学術的・専門的成長に深く、そして永続的な影響を与えています。
