University of Chile and TMDU Joint Degree Doctoral Program in Medical Sciences with mention of a medical specialty

Alessandra Cassana

As of September, 2020

My name is Alessandra Cassana, I am a medical doctor, general surgeon, and I am currently undertaking the first year of the University of Chile and TMDU Joint Degree Doctoral Program in Medical Sciences with mention of a medical specialty in Colorectal Surgery. It is an honor for me to be part of this program, which in turn constitutes a great opportunity to strengthen both my clinical and surgical knowledge. So far, I have attended very important lectures, seminars and workshops in a wide range of topics such as ethics, biology, cellular and molecular bases of cancer, biostatistics, and intestinal microbiota; courses that certainly serve as the basis for a multidisciplinary approach to colorectal pathology and Medicine in general.

This pandemic has shown us that the scientific community’s constant work and efforts can achieve great things, thus consolidating our position as physicians, and at the same time, as students who belong to a program that seeks, above all, to promote research and knowledge in favor of people’s health.

More than ever before, and despite the difficulties we may encounter, we must keep on educating ourselves in a comprehensive fashion and within a context of increasing globalization, all this with the sole purpose of efficiently contributing to the future of society. Knowledge is power.
