Academic English is English used in English-medium courses, or subject courses taught through English. How is this different from regular English? Well, the skills and style are different. Here are some examples of Academic English skills:
- Writing formal research reports
- Writing formal emails to the instructor
- Listening to lectures in English
- Asking questions/responding to the instructor
- Discussing topics with the instructor/classmates
- Reading subject textbooks written in English
- Note-taking of lectures and textbooks
- Oral presentation
