History

1944 May The Department of Psychiatry was established at Tokyo Medical and Dental College with Prof. Toshiki Shimazaki being appointed as the first professor.
1946   Started outpatient treatment at Tokyo Medical and Dental University with one professor and one nurse.
1948 Jan Started inpatient treatment at the main hospital of Tokyo Medical and Dental University with 4 beds and the Konodai branch hospital with 2 beds (closed in 1949).
1950   The clinical department was renamed from the Department of Psychiatry to the Department of Neurology.
1955   The name of the department was changed to the Department of Neuropsychiatry.
1967   Prof. Toshiki Shimazaki retired early.
1967 Oct The second professor, Yasuo Shimazono, arrived from Kanazawa University.
1972   The clinical department was renamed from the Department of Neurology to the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology.
1982 Apr Prof. Yasuo Shimazono became the director of the Musashi National Sanatorium in preparation for the establishment of the National Center. He served as Professor concurrently until September.
1983 Apr The third professor, Ryo Takahashi, arrived from Nagasaki University.
1988   Prof. Ryoshi Takahashi passed away due to illness.
1989 Nov The fourth professor, Michio Toru, arrived from Shinshu University.
1991   The school was officially recognized as a WHO Collaborating Center, and Prof. Michio Toru became the director of the center.
1998 Mar Prof. Michio Toru retired.
1999 Apr Renamed the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences.
1999 Oct The fifth professor, Toru Nishikawa, arrived from the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry.
2015 Sep Prof. Okada Takeyuki (the first professor in charge of forensic psychiatry) arrived from the National Center for Psychiatry and Neurology.
2018 Mar Toru Nishikawa retired.
2019 Feb The sixth professor, Hidehiko Takahashi, arrived from University of Kyoto.
    He continues as its professor.
