Held a seminar on medical-engineering

Research Center for Biomedical Engineering (RCBE) has started a series of web-based medical-engineering seminars with the Tokyo Metropolitan Medical-Engineering Collaboration HUB Organization in order to put the results to practical use and deepen collaboration with industrial companies. Participants in the seminar are about 700 manufacturers and distributors of medical equipment in Tokyo.

This time, on October 14, the latest research results were reported by the members of RCBE. The participants were 106 (35 manufacturing and sales companies, 15 manufacturing companies, 4 clinical institutions, 22 research institutes, 12 administrative and public institutions, and 18 others).

As introductions, Director Naoto Ohtake of Tokyo Institute of Technology and Director Akinobu Teramoto of Hiroshima University introduced the outline of each research institute. After each introduction, Associate Professor Kim Joon-wan of Tokyo Institute of Technology and Assistant Professor Yoshiteru Amemiya of Hiroshima University lectured "Lung function chip using ECF (electro-conjugate fluid) micro-pump", and " Immune sensor using silicon photonics technology ", respectively.

A panel discussion was held from this time, and discussed on "The Future of Life Science and Medical-Engineering Collaboration". The panelists are the above 4 researchers and Akihiro Miyauchi, a professor of Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Kazuo Tanishita, Chairman of Nippon Medical Engineering Manufacturing Commons, and Toshihiko Kashiwano, Project Manager of the Tokyo Metropolitan Medical Engineering Cooperation HUB Organization. Under the coordination of Mr. Kashiwano, discussions were held not only on technical issues such as how to proceed industry-academia collaborations, but also seeking a true collaboration between universities and companies.

The next seminar will be held on November 30th by the lecturers of Tokyo Medical and Dental University and Shizuoka University.
