RCBE held 2024 Annual Meeting

As part of our efforts to revitalize the researcher community, Research Center for Biomedical Engineering (RCBE) organizes an annual achievement report meeting for collaborative research. This year, the event was held in person on March 3, 2024, at the Laboratory for Future Interdisciplinary Research of Science. A total of 250 participants attended, with eight oral presentations and a record-breaking 197 poster presentations.

The event began with an opening address by President Yujiro Tanaka of Institute of Science Tokyo University, followed by a report from Hiroyuki Kagechika, Director of the Laboratory for Biomaterials and Bioengineering, who summarized the activity of RCBE for the year and outlined plans for the next fiscal year. Next, Professor Makoto Kakihana (Specially Appointed Professor at Osaka University’s Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research) introduced the Collaborative Research Center for Materials and Devices, which maintains a flexible partnership with our center.

After a group photo session, the poster presentations took place in two parts, both of which were highly successful. The event then moved to the hall, where Professor Yukihito Higashi introduced recent activity of Network-type Joint Usage/Research Center for Radiation Disaster Medical Science. Subsequently, eight invited speakers presented cutting-edge research in the field of biomedical engineering, covering a wide range of topics, including medical applications of wireless technology, deflection analysis of puncture needles, CMOS sensors, gas imaging, artificial elastin, electrodes for EEG recording, and intracellular elemental analysis using atmospheric pressure plasma.

Following the presentations, Akinobu Teramoto, Director of the Research Institute for Semiconductor Engineering at Hiroshima University, announced next year’s international symposium. The event concluded with closing remarks from Hiroshi Nishina, Director of the Institute of Integrated Research. During the networking session, which was attended by 93 people, 10 poster awards were presented.

Despite the snowy rain on the day of the event, many researchers from our center gathered, fostering collaboration between the fields of medicine, dentistry, and engineering. Additionally, the graduate students from the Yushima Campus of Institute of Science Tokyo participated in the oral presentation session, likely gaining valuable inspiration from the experience.
