Graduate Schools / Research Programs

The Laboratory for Biomaterials and Bioengineering at Institute of Science Tokyo heartily invites you to join the research projects conducting in our departments as a graduate student (either master's course or doctor's course), or a research student. Please contact the professor of the laboratory you wish to join.

Graduate School Student / Research Student

Master's Course

You can take the entrance exam if you graduated four-year bachelor course or are expected to graduate, or if you are acknowledged as having equal or higher academic ability. Students who have completed the Master's Course are granted a master's degree (Master of Medical Science, Master of Dental Science, Master of Oral Health Care Science, Master of Engineering, Master of Science, or Master of Medical Laboratory Science).

The agreement of the adviser is required prior to taking the exam. You may conduct researches in the adviser's laboratory and submit the master thesis.

Doctor's Course

We provide two Doctor's Courses:

a three-year science and technology course and a four-year medical and dental course.

Doctoral Program:
Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Track

Applicants who have obtained, or will obtain, a master's degree (or who are recognized as being of academic ability equal to or superior to a master's degree), may apply to this three-year doctoral course. Students who have completed the Doctor's course receive a doctor's degree (PhD in Science, PhD in Engineering, or PhD in Medical Laboratory Science).

Doctral Program:
Medical and Dental Sciences Track

Applicants who have graduated, or will graduate, from a faculty of medicine or dentistry, and those who have obtained, or will obtain, a master's degree (or who are recognized as being of academic ability equal to or superior to a master's degree), may apply to this four-year doctoral course. Students who have completed the Doctor's course receive a doctor's degree (PhD in Medical Science, PhD in Dental Science, or PhD).

Research Student Program

The research student program enables students to enter graduate schools to study a specific subject or to do research as research students with the permission of the graduate school. However, such students are not entitled to receive degrees. Most research students use this program to prepare for enrollment in regular courses at graduate schools.
