Instructions to Authors



The Japanese Journal of Parasitology, published bimonthly, is both the official organ of the Japanese Society of Parasitology, and a medium for the publication of research and review article in the field of human and animal parasitology. Short reports of new experimental results, new technics, case report, etc. will be published in turn as research notes. They should not be longer that 2 printed pages. Manuscripts, which must be written in English or Japanese, should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief

An original and two copies should be submitted. They must be typewritten in double spacing throughout and in finished form. They will be reviewed by appropriate experts, and authors will be notified when their papers have been accepted.

For papers decribing original research, the authors will be requested to pay a charge of 2,000 Japanese Yen for the first 5 printed pages. The cost of additional pages and all plates will be charged to the author. If the length of a research note exceeds 2 printed pages, the authors required to pay for extra pages. Two or more articles can be submitted by the same author in the same issue only with the financial cooperation of the author. fifty or more offprints may be obtained at the author's expenses. Authors will be charged for excessive alterations in the galley proof, other than printer's errors.

Manuscripts should include the title of the paper, author, institution, an adequate postal address, and e-mail address, if available. Abstract, introduction, materials and method, results, discussion, acknowledgment, and references should follow. A list of key words (not to exceed 6 words) should be given on the top of the first page. It is advised to refer the subject headings in reference journals such as "Index Medicus." Grant acknowledgements may appear at the beginning of the text. Binominal Latin names of organisms should be underlined in the typescript.

Metric units and technical terms should be expressed as follows: centimeter-cm, micrometer-mm, nanometer-nm, kilometer-Kg, gram-g, milligram-mg, microgram-mg, nanogram-ng, liter-l, milliliter-ml, hour-hr, minute-min, degrees Celsius-¡C, molar-M, normal-N, millicurie-mCi, microcurie-mCi, gravity-Xg, revolutions per minute-rpm, percent-%, standard deviation-SD, standard error-SE, optical density-OD, 50% lethal dose-LD50.

Citations of references in the test should be given in the following form: Yamada (1995), Yamada and Sato (1995) or (Yamada and Sato, 1995). Where there are three or more authors the citation should be in the form (Yamada et al., 1995). Where more than one paper by the same author(s) have been published in the same year they should be cited as Yamada (1995a), Yamada (1995b).

Graphs, photographs, and tables should appear on a separate sheet and should be referred to in the test as Fig. 1, Table 1, etc. The author should indicate in the margins of the manuscript his or her preferences as to the approximate placement of the tables and figures in the test.

The references at the end of paper should be arranged in alphabetical order according to the name of the first author, and arranged in the following way:
Weinbach, E. C. and Noalan, M. O. (1956): The effect of pentacholorophenol on the metabolism of the snail Biomphalaria glabrata. Exp. Parasitol., 5, 276-284.

References to books should follow these styles:
Faust, E. C. (1949) Human Parasitology, 3rd. ed. Lea & Febiger, Philadelphia, 744 pp.: Yokogawa, M. (1969): paragonimus and paragonimiasis. In Advances in Parasitology, Vol. 7, Dawes B., ed., Academic Press, London and New York, 375-387.

Journal names should be abbreviated as shown in the list of Journal indexed in "Index Medicus."

One Year's subscription to the Journal is included in the annual dues (6,000 Japanese Yen).
