COVID-19 measures

The Department of Psychiatry at the Institute of Science Tokyo has established a mental health care team in collaboration with the Department of Palliative Care, the Nursing Department, and the Health Management Center in relation to COVID-19. This project was established by Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) to provide care for COVID-19 patients and their families, TMDU medical professionals and staff who are dealing with COVID-19, and the general public who are concerned about the COVID-19 pandemic. The mental health care team launched a unique program called “Mental & Psychological Care/Relief: mPCR” in an attempt to safeguard the mental health of hospital staff and maintain hospital operations. Its goal is to prevent mental health issues, protect mental health, respond to COVID-19 in a relaxed manner, and enable individuals to easily return to their normal lives after the pandemic is over.

Another achievement is the creation of “Tokyo Metropolitan Distress Scale for Pandemic (TMDP)”, which is a new simple evaluation scale to measure the mental and social burdens faced by healthcare professionals in COVID-19 clinical care. The new TMDP scale accurately detects depression and anxiety among healthcare professionals and identifies COVID-19 and other pandemic-specific phenomena, including the risk of contributing to the spread of infection, anxiety, social stigma, and economic burden.
