TMDU inaugurated major reforms in its curriculum in 2003. One of the chief aims of this extensive renovation is to create a new model of medical education in
Japan
, by which model we believe we can nurture high-quality doctors and researchers who will open up a new frontier of the art of medicine and life sciences. TMDU has cooperated with Harvard Medical International, Inc. since 2002 and, through this partnership, developed new ideas and approaches of medical education which can meet various challenges in the new era.
Mission
The mission of the Faculty of Medicine, TMDU, is to serve the society by developing doctors and scientists who will be able:
To have highly humane and intellectual sensitivities
To have a broad and ethical perspective
To have a positive attitude to explore new problems
To have creative faculties to extend the frontier of medical science
To be international-minded leaders
Educational Policy
The whole curriculum is designed based on the coherent educational policy. What we value the most is not the quantity of knowledge but the basic attitude acquired through the 6 year program that will help the students continuingly develop their potentiality throughout their future careers. Our mottos are:
With a rapid expansion of scientific knowledge, it is almost impossible to teach everything at school. The students are expected to acquire essential knowledge to build the solid foundation for the further development through the selectively-formed courses of Basic Science.
Think and Learn by Themselves
The students are encouraged to engage in discussion, research, and problem solving in small groups. A wide range of optional or elective courses is offered for the students to study with spontaneity.
Learn by Doing
The students undertake a research project during a five-month Project Semester in the fourth year. In the Clinical Clerkship programs in the 5th and 6th years, the students study as a member of clinical teams. These actual experiences in laboratories and clinical settings help the students deepen their understanding of their responsibilities and acquire necessary skills and knowledge.
