The 7th International Symposium on Biomedical Engineering was held by on-line

RCBE (Research Center for Biomedical Engineering) held the 7th international symposium by on-line in November 25. The international symposiums have been held every year, and Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) was the host-coordinator this year.

Opening remarks were given by Prof. Yujiro Tanaka, President of TMDU and Mr. Ichiro Kuronuma, University Research Facilitation Division of Director of Research Promotion Bureau in MEXT. Then Prof. Hiroyuki Kegechika, Director of Institute of Biomedical and Biomaterial Laboratory, introduced the recent activity of RCBE.

The number of participants was 261 (including 57 overseas researchers). 12-invited speakers presented their leading-edge research. In the poster session, 146 posters were presented with short-presentation videos. Various topics such as biomaterials, biosensors, therapeutic methods, diagnostic devices, drug delivery systems, functional molecules, bio-MEMS, robotics, biomedical equipment/systems, and bioinstrumentation were discussed. Due to the large number of posters, the poster session was scheduled to be open for 11 days, with abstracts and videos of short presentations available for viewing at any time.

The international symposium has been online since last year due to COVID-19. Since it is online, it is difficult to have a direct conversation, but we set the poster session for 11-days to compensate the disadvantages of online. The next international symposium will be held by Hiroshima University in 2023.
