Medical AI Workshop of RCBE Held at Tokyo Medical and Dental University
As part of core activities in RCBE (Research Center for Biomedical Engineering), we have initiated a workshop on medical AI aimed at fostering young researchers in interdisciplinary fields. This year, the workshop was held from August 26 (Monday) to August 29 (Thursday) at the Institute of Biomaterials and Bioengineering, Tokyo Medical and Dental University. Travel and accommodation expenses were covered by the RCBE, which provided an environment particularly accessible to students. This year, the workshop was conducted in a hybrid format, combining both online and on-site participation.
Nine researchers participated from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Hiroshima University, Nagoya University and so on. They learned about the principles of AI, methods for creating and preprocessing necessary data, implementation techniques, tips for improving AI performance, and the latest trends in medical AI. The training sessions included implementing neural networks (NN), image classification, object detection, and image segmentation through NN-based analysis of medical image data, and evaluating the performance of NN. The intensive program from understanding principles to evaluating NN performance with medical image data provided a valuable experience.
RCBE is advancing interdisciplinary training utilizing the unique facilities and research environments of four research institutes. We will continue to focus on nurturing the next generation of researchers in the fields of biomedical engineering.
