(2) Education in Child and Family Nursing
Child and family nursing deals with nursing and care management for children with chronic conditions including cancer or disabled children and their families in the hospital, institution, and community.


Subjects for Child and Family Nursing in Master's Program

Child and Family Nursing Lecture A2 credits Students learn theories for understanding a child and its family in the lifespan perspective. The class provides developmental theories, theories of family development and family relationships, and concepts of health. Based upon these theories and concepts, students are encouraged to understand the current life environment of the child and social context of a child's life.

Child and Family Nursing Seminar A2 credits
The seminar A is held parallel with the Lecture A. In this class students are actively involved with independent study on the issues learnt in the Lecture A. Faculty and students read articles on the issues dealt with in Lecture A and discuss the issues in this seminar. Through critical thinking and discussion, students acquire more comprehensive and profound knowledge and skills in child and family nursing.

Child and Family Nursing Lecture B2 credits
Students learn methods and skills in nursing assessment and nursing intervention for promoting the health of the child and its family and helping them cope with their health problems. Students also learn medical and social care systems, and social resources including care management systems for children with special needs.

Child and Family Nursing Seminar B2 credits
Seminar B is held parallel with Lecture B. In this class students are actively involved with independent study on the issues learnt in Lecture B. Faculty and students read articles on the issues dealt with in Lecture B and discuss the issues in this seminar. Through critical thinking and discussion, students acquire more comprehensive and profound knowledge and skills in child and family nursing. In addition, this course provides practical classes for acquiring nursing assessment skills.

Child and Family Nursing Practice 6 credits
This practice is mainly designed to prepare for the clinical nurse specialists in the future. Practice in child and family nursing through not only in a hospital but also community-wide activities, and home care-oriented practice are linked. Therefore even though students take either practice, both involve collaboration, practice includes advanced child and family nursing practice required for clinical nurse specialists in pediatric nursing, staff teaching, coordination, research, and management of ethical problems.

Child and Family Nursing Research (Thesis)8 credits
Students learn research methods in Child and Family Nursing, select a research topic, review the literature, plan a research study, collect data and acquire presentation skills in academic conferences or articles in this course.


Subjects for Child and Family Nursing in Doctoral Program


Child and Family Nursing Lecture4 credits
Students learn research methods and conduct research for helping children with chronic conditions or disabilities and their families. Based upon this learning and research, students learn how to develop nursing care systems for interventions with children with chronic conditions or disabilities and their families. They also learn how to develop a nursing model and theory derived from the intervention and research.

Child and Family Nursing Research (Dissertation)8 credits
Students conduct research independently and are able to present their research at an international conference.
