FY2025 Annual Meeting Held

March 3, 2026  |  Institute of Science Tokyo — Laboratory for Biomaterials and Bioengineering (host)

The Research Center for Biomedical Engineering holds an annual meeting to promote interaction and invigorate the research community through the presentation of collaborative research results. In FY2025, the meeting was held fully in person, featuring a record-high 207 poster presentations and a rich program of activities.

At the opening, Director Hiroyuki Kagechika of the Laboratory for Biomaterials and Bioengineering at the Institute of Science Tokyo, who serves as the representative of the Center, reported on the Center's activities during the past year and outlined the business plan for the coming year.

Because of the large number of posters, the sessions were divided into three parts held in two venues on either side of the main auditorium. This format allowed presenters more opportunities to visit other posters, leading to lively and productive discussions.

Poster sessions, oral presentations, and networking reception

After the poster sessions, participants gathered for a commemorative group photo, followed by the oral presentation session. The session began with introductions by collaborating centers:

Prof. Shunichi Kuroda (Director, The Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, Osaka University) representing the Network Joint Research Center for Materials and Devices, and Director Yukihito Higashi (Research Institute for Radiation Biology and Medicine, Hiroshima University) representing the Joint Usage/Research Center for Radiation Disaster Medical Science.

The latest research results were then presented in fields including dentistry, sensors, artificial organs, advanced imaging, and biomimetics. The session also served as a seminar for graduate students in the medical and dental sciences at the Institute of Science Tokyo.

Closing remarks were delivered by Director Hideki Hosoda of the Laboratory for Future Interdisciplinary Research of Science and Technology, bringing the event to a successful conclusion.

During the networking reception (80 attendees), 15 Poster Awards were selected from 64 posters submitted by early-career researchers aged 35 or younger. Director Kagechika presented the awards to the recipients.

Despite the rainy weather, many researchers affiliated with the Center gathered, further promoting collaboration between medical and dental sciences and engineering.
