The purpose of the presented guidelines of clinical conduct and hygiene is to establish a working routine to prevent the transfer of infection between patients and between patients, students and staff, as well as to lay down rules for suitable clinical conduct.
All those working in and around the clinics must follow the guidelines, and the students are informed about the guidelines on their first day at the University as part of an introductory course. The guidelines include rules for the followingF 1) personnel hygiene like e.g. clothing, ordinary handwash, clinical handwash, and surgical handscrub, 2) recommendations for vaccinations of staff and students, 3) care of instruments and care of the dental unit, 4) daily cleaning of the technical laboratories and X-ray machines, and care of radiographic films, 5) care of clinical photography of patients, 6) laboratory work e.g. impressions and jaw registrations, and restorations received from the dental laboratory, 7) how to take care of different types of waste, and finally 8) precautions to be taken of lesions involving a risk of infection.
The dental undergraduate curriculum include lectures, demonstrations, laboratory work and group-session on clinical hygiene and clinical conduct. In addition the dental students are trained in Microbiology and communication with patients.
