Industry-Academia Collaborative Research

Tokyo Medical and Dental University promotes various forms of Industry-Academia Collaborative Activities such as collaborative research and contract research with companies, other universities, and public research institutions.

Collaborative Research

Collaborative Research

This means research on a common subject, which is jointly carried out by researchers from companies, other universities, public institutions, and TMDU researchers, in the form of accepting researchers, research fund, and the like from outside institutions.

Handling of Inventions

At Tokyo Medical and Dental University, The handling and ownership of inventions and other intellectual property rights arising out of collaborative research are negotiated by the participating parties based on a relative contribution to the said invention.

Flow of Procedure

(1) Selecting TMDU Researchers with Whom You Want to Conduct Collaborative Research

Consider researchers of TMDU with whom you want to conduct collaborative research.

(2) Consulting Research Content

Consult with TMDU researchers about research theme, research period, research fund, division of roles for the research and the like.

(3) From Application to Approval

Submit a Collaborative Research Application Form to Research Cooperation Section of TMDU. The application needs to be approved by TMDU.

(4) Concluding a Collaborative Research Agreement

A partner institution and TMDU conclude a Collaborative Research Agreement.

In principle, TMDU propose a draft of a Collaborative Research Agreement. If terms and conditions of the agreement need to be modified, Intellectual Property Division negotiates with the partner institution. When the parties reach a final consensus on the agreement, it will be approved by an authorized representative of TMDU through Research Cooperation Section, and the agreement is formally concluded.

(5) Payment of Research Fund

The research fund is required to be paid to a financial institution designated by TMDU. After the research fund is paid, the collaborative research starts.

Contract Research

Contract Research

This means research that is carried out by TMDU researchers based on a contract from companies, other universities, or public institutions. The research results will be reported to the contracting institutions.

Handling of Inventions

In principle, Inventions and other intellectual property rights arising out of contract research belong to TMDU.

Flow of Procedure

(1) Selecting TMDU Researchers to Whom You Want to Contract Research

Consider TMDU researchers to whom you want to contract research.

(2) Consulting Research Content

Consult with TMDU researchers about research theme, research period, research fund, division of roles for the research, and the like.

(3) From Application to Approval

Submit a Contract Research Application Form to Research Cooperation Section of TMDU. The application needs to be approved by TMDU.

Scholarship Program

This is a program of TMDU to receive donations from companies or others for the development of academic research and education of TMDU.
