The 5th Asian Epigenomics Meeting & A3 Symposium 2010 in Jeju, Korea

Date June 20-22, 2010
Venue Jeju Heavichi Hotel Grand Ball Room, Korea

Summary

The A3 Foresight Symposium was held together with the 5th Asian Epigenomics Meeting (AEM) on June 20-22, at Jeju Heavichi Hotel Grand Ball Room, Korea. The AEM was designed to build scientific network among 4 nations, i.e., Korea, Japan, China, and Singapore, and this 5th symposium was organized by 2010 AEM organizing committee and Korea Genome Organization. In the joint meeting, A3 Foresight meeting consisted of two programs, as shown below. All the researchers in the A3 Foresight program participated in the AEM. Dr. Woo Ho Kim is the head of A3 Foresight program committee and Dr. Ushijima is the member country coordinator in AEM side. Dr. Yong Sung Kim, Dr. Yuasa and Dr. Ushijima talked their current research findings in the symposia of this joint meeting. The poster sessions consisting of 7 AEM candidates and 7 A3 Foresight young scientists were held on June 20. Next day, there were two A3 concurrent sessions, i.e., “Progress on epigenetics of gastric cancer” and “Recent progress of miRNA mediated mechanisms of breast cancer”, and we have attended the former session. Ten scientists from 3 nations talked their current findings by oral presentation. Finally, discussion of collaborative researches was made at the end of this session.

There was a travel accident by a heavy fog in the Jeju island on June 20 and arrival was delayed, subsequently some schedules of the meeting were changed. Nevertheless, the joint meeting of two A3 Foresights and AEM groups was very fruitful through active discussion for cancer epigenetics/epigenomics. During the meeting, we could obtain a lot of information on “epigenomics” in various cancers. We could also discuss about the epigenetic mechanisms in gastric carcinogenesis in the A3 Foresight meeting, and further discussed on collaborate researches among 3 nations.
