Essential Expertise for Clinical Dentistry 6 (EECD6)



Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, EECD6, which usually has hands-on sessions, needed to be re-designed for an online style.
This course, offering participants up-to-date dental clinical knowledge along with the research outcome, was held from August 24th to September 2nd.

During these weeks, the participants had the chance to actually engage in discussions with the lecturers via a web conferencing system.
Before joining the online discussion session, lecture videos were provided for participants to study the following topics:
1. One day direct denture restorations using hard and soft relining materials (Dr. KANAZAWA Manabu)
2. Direct resin core build-up method using custom core form (Dr. KOMADA Wataru)
3. Evaluation for oral function (Dr. KOMAGAMINE Yuriko)
4. Crown lengthening and periodontal surgery (Dr. MIZUTANI Koji)
5. Improved composite injection technique (Dr. HOSAKA Keiichi) and Monoblock restoration (Dr. HATAYAMA Takashi)
6. Treatment strategy in Class III malocclusion (Dr. YONEMITSU Ikuo)

During the online discussion sessions, regarding the videos, participants were able to ask questions of the lectures resulting in active discussions. Some lectures prepared summary of the video lectures, some introduced new knowledge, and one doctor joined online discussion with his clinical case (Dr. YANO Kosei (Periodontology).

As dental professionals, we are always looking for innovative methods to provide this course. We will be back as EECD7 with a hope of providing hands-on sessions.
