Report: Joint Symposium with Three Taiwan Universities

TMDU has held four joint symposiums with Taipei Medical University on research topics since 2013 as a means to deepen the universities’ mutual communication. To further develop academic exchange with other partner universities in Taiwan, two additional universities National Taiwan University and National Defense Medical Center have been invited to participate in this joint symposium, which now comprises four universities. The first commemorative joint symposium was held this year on Saturday October 5th at Taipei Medical University.

At the beginning of the symposium, President Yoshizawa expressed his gratitude for the great cooperation of the three universities in Taiwan, and introduced TMDU’s research activities in medical data science that currently focuses on areas such as AI, IoT, and big data.

The theme of this year’s joint symposium was "Medical Innovation", and research from each university was presented. Presenters included Professor Itaka Keishi (Department of Biofunction Research), Professor Takanori Takebe (Organ and Tissue Neogenesis Consortium), Professor Yokota Takanori (Department of Neurology and Neurological Science), Professor Okamoto Ryuichi (Institute of Research Center for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine), Professor Keiji Moriyama (Department of Maxillofacial Orthognathics), and Associate Professor Ikeda Sadakatsu (Precision Cancer Medicine).

All the presentations were excellent and informative, and created active discussions between lecturers and the audience during the Question & Answer sessions. Following the symposium, improved communication amongst the four universities is expected which will lead to active collaboration, especially in these research areas.

Along with the symposium, a signing ceremony was held for the Inter-University Agreement on Academic Exchange between TMDU and Taipei Medical University. The Chairman Wen-chang CHANG and President Chien-Huang LIN of Taipei Medical University signed the agreement with President Yoshizawa of TMDU.

On the day after the symposium (October 6th, Sunday), the TMDU team paid a visit to the National Defense Medical Center and was warmly welcomed by President Tai-Lung CHA and the Center’s staff. Discussions were carried out on the prospects for future mutual student exchanges and international exchanges. The TMDU team also had the opportunity to visit the Tri-Service General Hospital located at the Center.

TMDU is grateful for opportunity of such successful communication with the three Taiwan universities and look forward to continuous collaboration in the future.
