*      ABOUT THE COURSE OF ORAL HEALTH CARE SCIENCES, SCHOOL OF ORAL HEALTH CARE SCIENCES, FACULTY OF DENTISTRY.

 

Tokyo National School of Dentistry was founded in 1928. Established in 1946, Tokyo Medical and Dental University is dedicated and committed to the education of medical, dental and health science professionals as well as to the research in these fields.

 

School of Oral Health Care Sciences was founded in the faculty of Dentistry in April 2004. The school is the first university school in Japan, for the education and research of oral health care sciences. The students will be qualified for the national examination for the dental hygienist and certified social worker in Japan.

The first graduates were received the new degree, bachelor of Oral Health Science, in March 2008.

School of Oral Health Care Sciences was reorganized in April 2011, and two courses, Oral Health Care Sciences and Oral Health Engineering, were established in the school. Previous school of Oral Health Care Sciences has been renamed course of Oral Health Care Sciences. The students of the course of Oral Health Engineering will be qualified for the national examination for the dental technician in Japan.

 

 

*        Undergraduate Education.

 

*        In the first year of the curriculum, students receive the education of liberal studies from College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Curriculum content in the first year includes some courses that help make the connections between oral health and general health.

 

*        In the second year, students learn the biomedical and dental sciences, as well as the foundation of the special subject of oral health care. Curriculum content includes the subjects of oral care and social welfare.

 

*        In the third year, students learn the special subject of oral health care. Practice in the dental hospital begins at the latter half of the third year curriculum. Students rotate through various clinics in the hospital.

 

*        In the fourth year, students spend time in the dental hospital. In addition students rotate through externships for the practice of social welfare. Students grapple with the graduation research at the end of the fourth year curriculum.

Liberal Arts and Sciences

Students acquire the wide-ranging and balanced culture in the society with a low birthrate and an aging population, internationalization and computerization.

Lifetime Oral Health Care Sciences

Students acquire knowledge and specialized skill to maintain and improve the quality of life over the course of one's life.

Oral Health Care Promotion

Students acquire knowledge about the health education and the disease prevention and develop the ability to judge health condition for the contribution to the improvement in the peoplefs oral health.

 

 

Community Oral Health Care Science

Students acquire knowledge and specialized skill to promote the healthy life of local residents.

Fundamental Oral Health Care Sciences

Students learn the structure of the human body and its function and train the basic skill to examine the requirement for peoplefs healthy life scientifically.

Graduation research

Students experience a series of flow from the research plan to the thesis preparation.
