Object and Mission

A dental technician is a technologist who shares an important part of dentistry, who works to make dentures, fillings, and pedodontic or orthodontic appliances under dentists’ directions. Recently dental medicine has been progressed and complicated and general expectations to a dental technician is increasingly popular. Our school has an aim at providing special education and skill requirement sufficient to obtain the qulaification of a dental technician.


History

School for Dental Technicians attached to Tokyo Medical and Dental University, school of Dentistry (TMDU) was installed as a sole national school of training to be dental technicians in 1952. The history goes back to the foundation time of TMDU. Those days, dental technicians training at Education Ministry dental hospital located at Hitotsubashi, Tokyo, started in 1918. The department of dental technicians training was installed by the administration regulation in 1929, and in 1952 the dental technicians school was attached to the TMDU dental department. In an object to train excellent advancement toward already qualified technicians, the special training course, or postgraduate course, was installed in 1957. The tradition has nearly 75 years of history, and many talented technicians have graduated from here into dental profession. In addition, the title of "Specialist" qualified to the medical special course was provided from March, 1995, and we are expecting higher evaluation from the society.
