Comprehensive Health Nursing Sciences

Master's Program
Based on professional knowledge and techniques cultivated at the baccalaureate level, this course prepares leaders / managers / administrators / researchers / educators in ethical nursing practice by deepening their knowledge in each specialty, by acquiring scientific thinking, and by research activities.

Doctoral Program
This course is to prepare advanced professionals as ethical researchers / educators / managers and international and multidisciplinary leaders, who can conduct independent research with the advanced knowledge, techniques and skills required of advanced professionals in nursing fields.
Community Health and Home Care Nursing

This department offers opportunities for advanced research and education for students to develop effective and efficient provision of community-based care for people with various health problems or mental disorders, as well as supporting normal birth, disease prevention, health recovery, rehabilitation, and terminal care in all age groups from children to the elderly in a community. International and multidisciplinary education will be offered to prepare nursing researchers with organizational problem-solving methods and understanding of team care within this advanced specialty, as well as the skills to develop and recommend health policy.

(2) Education
It includes community health nursing services to prevent health problems and related living problems for residents in community. This course prepares leaders who can conduct independent research projects and present their achievements in domestic and international academic conferences and scientific journals.

The subject of the education and research in home care nursing is the patient and the handicapped person who live at home, the specialist who relates to theses kind of people, and the health care systems of society. Especially, we focus on aged person, cancer patients, patients who have an incurable disease. And we carry out research into nursing of transition period from hospitals to home, nursing for the patient who needs high level medical technology, and hospice care at home with interdisciplinary and international point of view.

(2) Education
Patients for home care nursing include people who are ill, or have problems in daily life, and people at high risk for poor health across the lifespan, from children to the elderly, and their families. Understanding home care systems in Japan and abroad, students learn how to develop creative research and apply it in practice related to assessment, care planning, care provision methods, practice skills, team care management, care system development, utilization of social resources, evaluation of care outcomes and cost control.

This course of study prepares clinical-oriented international and multidisciplinary research leaders who can conduct research projects by themselves and present their results at domestic or international academic conferences and in scientific journals.

(2) Education in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing
This course of study provides multidisciplinary and international research and education in order to establish the principles and methodology in mental health nursing. Fundamental issues covered are stress-coping behaviors, supporting methods for self-care and decision making, nursing consultation techniques, and the techniques of analyzing clinical situations and supervising. The course is aiming to establish practical standards for advanced practice in mental health and psychiatric nursing care.
Nursing Function and Care Management

Advanced medical services and techniques require development of advanced nursing techniques and the science behind them. Care plans are needed across the life span, from infants to the elderly. For responding to these needs, the department conducts interdisciplinary and international education and research to train nurse scientists who will lead research for developing care management, care systems, and nursing administration, such as clinical paths and discharge planning. There are several areas within this integrated department, including fundamental nursing and life support, child and family nursing, critical and invasive-palliative care nursing, and gerontological nursing.

We work on the early intervention study for parenting of preterm and low-birth weight infants and their mothers focusing on infant-mother interactions and child development based on findings from our previous study.
We also completed the Japanese version NCAST (Nursing Child Assessment Satellite Training), originated from Dr. Kathryn Barnard at the University of Washington, and have since been making efforts to spread the use of the manual throughout Japan.
Infant mental health is one of our recent focuses. We are promoting the combination of its theories and practice with child and family nursing. Our clinical practices and research are inter-disciplinary, involving not only nurses but also psychologists, social workers, teachers, and both physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

Health Education

To help people acquire good health habits from their youth, and to maintain a high level of health and quality of life in middle and advanced age, this department focuses on interdisciplinary education and the study of health information. The course of study includes such areas as occupational health, psychology, the science of physical strength, and medical economics, with practical approaches to health behavior change within the broad perspectives of community influences on health. Students in this department have opportunities for international and interdisciplinary studies, and will conduct research related to areas of health promotion. Within this integrated department are two areas of study, analytical health science and occupational health.

Education in this department helps students of nursing and the inspection courses understand broad concepts of public health through lecture and laboratory practice, including such areas as health planning, health administration, public health (specialist laboratory science), social welfare, industrial health and more. As part of this course of study, students acquire fundamental public health knowledge that can be applied widely. This educational program helps students from a variety of health fields to master the best practices for promoting health in the medical system, and trains them to be independent leaders who are able to solve health care problems in occupation.
International Nursing Development

(2) Education
This department provides 2-credit classes for the academic training of
graduate students. The official language for all classroom activities,
including students' presentations, is English.
Students who write their thesis/dissertation in this department will learn
the basics of biology, sociology, and medical psychology of adolescents and
young adults. These include physical and behavioral assessments,
developmental theories, social policies, and nursing interventions. Students
will be encouraged to study abroad for several weeks as part of their
academic skills training.

Master's Program
This course is to prepare graduates to be ethical educators and researchers, as well as leaders and managers in practice.

Doctoral Program
This course is to prepare independent researchers in laboratory fields, and advanced professionals as international and multidisciplinary leaders, ethical researchers, educators, and managers with the advanced knowledge and techniques required for advanced professional practice.
Life Sciences and Bio-informatics

Based on biochemistry, molecular biology, functional anatomy, physiology, and information technology, it is aimed to analyze biomedical information from molecular and cell levels to organ and individual levels, and to develop biomedical support systems including highly functional laboratory methodologies as well as rehabilitation tools of health sciences. Specialists are trained for developing teleoperational man-machine interfaces of biomedical measurement and control systems, e.g., welfare, health care, safety, rehabilitation and training for elderly people.
Moleculo-genetic Sciences

Development of the clinical laboratory test methods that are specifically link to the diagnosis of individual diseases is the main objective. The development and improvement of new laboratory tests will be achieved not only by performing education and research for pathologic state analysis and etiology elucidation making the most use of clinical chemistry, microbiology, virology, pathomorphology and hematology, but also by conducting international and multidisciplinary education and research for the application and practical use of gene diagnostic techniques associated with gene therapy, transplantation and organ reconstruction.

(2) Education
In this course, students learn the pathological findings of various diseases for understanding their etiology and pathogenesis at macroscopical, histological, cellular and molecular levels. Moreover, this course prepares students to be able to develop or improve pathological laboratory theories and methods for diagnosis, therapy and assessing prognosis in various diseases.

(2) Education
The objectives of laboratory molecular genetics of hematology are understanding and analyzing health and hematological diseases at moleculo-genetic levels. Students learn how to analyze hematological disorders, hemostasis and thrombosis, and so on, at moleculo-genetic levels. The main purpose is to develop specific laboratory methods useful for diagnosis and treatment of various disorders, transplantation, and gene therapy.
