授業の目的、概要等  
This course will examine the most significant period in the history of science: the 'Scientific Revolution'. The period called the Scientific Revolution saw a radical shift in our understanding of the universe and became the basis for contemporary scientific developments.
By reading the introductory textbook on the subject, students will learn basic ideas behind modern science in various fields such as astronomy, physics, chemistry, biology and medicine.
At the end of the course, students will submit a short essay based on what they have learned through this course.

Students completing this course will be able to:
1. Demonstrate broader knowledge of major figures, concepts and events that brought about modern science
2. Think critically about science and its place in our society and the world
3. Improve their communication skills in English
授業方法  
This course is basically a 'reading seminar', but combines seminars with lectures.
Each session usually starts with a short introductory lecture by the instructor and is followed by discussions on the text among all participants.

Students are required to come to class having read the assigned text and prepared to discuss.

履修上の注意事項  
This course will be conducted in English.
To receive credit, students must attend two-thirds of all classes and submit a short essay at the end of the semester.
