TOKYO MEDICAL AND DENTAL UNIVERSITY
International Summer Program 2012 Brain and Mind: Neuroscience Up-to-date
August 26– 29, 2012
— Application Guidelines for Financially-Supported Participants—

Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) has organized the International Summer Program 2012 (ISP2012) in order to bring together students and young scientists from Asia to study fundamental and emerging topics with leading neuroscience scientists. Those who are interested in joining a TMDU PhD course program in the near future are especially welcome to apply for this program. In addition to attending lectures, symposium presentations and poster sessions, ISP2012 participants will have multiple opportunities to (1) learn about TMDU, (2) visit TMDU research laboratories/departments, and (3) discuss issues of interest with international students at TMDU.

The theme for ISP2012 is “Brain and Mind: Neuroscience Up-to-date”.

ISP2012 will consist of two parts. The Lecture Course will feature presentations by leading researchers from abroad and from Japan, including researchers based at TMDU. On the final day the ISP2012 International Symposium will be held. This symposium will feature presentations by invited researchers from overseas. In addition to these scientific aspects of the program, ISP2012 will also help participants meet researchers at TMDU and learn about opportunities for studying at the university.

ISP2012 will feature the introduction of the “ISP International Student PhD Program Special Selection.” Under this new program, TMDU will offer invited participants the chance to take a PhD course entrance exam during ISP2012. By offering the ISP Special Selection, we hope to accept participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills, who have a strong desire for further interest and research as students in life science, bioengineering, medical science and dental science programs at TMDU. A select number of students will be offered the opportunity to enroll in a TMDU PhD course. In addition, students who enter a PhD program at TMDU via the ISP Special Selection are eligible for other benefits: the normal application fee for the Graduate School will not be collected, and enrollment and tuition fees will be waived. In addition, students who enter a PhD program under the ISP Special Selection program are eligible to apply for a special scholarship.

Accordingly, we will invite and select two types of talented international applicants to ISP2012: “General Participants” and “Special Selection Participants”. Before applying, please decide which status you would like to apply under. If you wish to apply as a Special Selection Participant, please kindly refer to the “ISP International Student PhD Program Special Selection 2012 Guidelines” for details and instructions regarding the additional documents you will need to submit for the purpose of taking the TMDU entrance examination.
